چکیده

The resource requirements characteristics of parallel scientific and commercial applications are quite diverse. In order to achieve the expected levels of high availability and faster service, new methods for resource allocation and management are needed. In this paper, we developed a new analytical model for resource allocation. The model includes the major system and application parameters that affect their performance. The model can detect and take into account the contention that may occur in shared device. It also includes the effect of the transient behavior and the type of the application service distribution. We use the model to examine the performance characteristics of these parameters and their effect on resource allocation. Our results show that the service distribution, the transient behavior and any resources’ contention have a significant impact on resource allocation.

Static Task Allocation in Distributed Systems Using Parallel Genetic Algorithm

Over the past two decades, PC speeds have increased from a few instructions per second to several million instructions per second. The tremendous speed of today's networks as well as the increasing need for high-performance systems has made researchers interested in parallel and distributed computing. The rapid growth of distributed systems has led to a variety of problems. Task allocation is a...

A survey on resource allocation in high performance distributed computing systems

An efficient resource allocation is a fundamental requirement in high performance computing (HPC) systems. Many projects are dedicated to large-scale distributed computing systems that have designed and developed resource allocation mechanisms with a variety of architectures and services. In our study, through analysis, a comprehensive survey for describing resource allocation in various HPCs i...

Probabilistic resource allocation in heterogeneous distributed systems with random failures

The problem of finding efficient workload distribution techniques is becoming increasingly important today for heterogeneous distributed systems where the availability of compute nodes may change spontaneously over time. Resource-allocation policies designed for such systems should maximize the performance and, at the same time, be robust against failure and recovery of compute nodes. Such a po...

Long-term Care Financing: Inserting Politics and Resource Allocation in the Debate; Comment on “Financing Long-term Care: Lessons From Japan”

The ageing of the countries’ populations, and in particular the growing number of the very old, is increasing the need for long-term care (LTC). Not surprisingly, therefore, the financing of LTC systems has become a crucial topic across the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In the last three decades, various financing policies have been carr...

Cold standby redundancy optimization for nonrepairable series-parallel systems: Erlang time to failure distribution

In modeling a cold standby redundancy allocation problem (RAP) with imperfect switching mechanism, deriving a closed form version of a system reliability is too difficult. A convenient lower bound on system reliability is proposed and this approximation is widely used as a part of objective function for a system reliability maximization problem in the literature. Considering this lower bound do...
